Aaron ‘The Spartan’ Spencer 1st Dan

Aaron started training at Seaford Karate Club back in November 2016. He decided that he needed to find another way of keeping fit after stopping playing football and read about all the additional benefits of karate (confidence/flexibility/longevity).
He has always been a competitive student who would push hard in classes to get the best out of himself. He quickly passed his grades with excellent results, passing a double grading in his first attempt.
In the early days there was a lot of doubt as to whether I would ever achieve my goal of 1st Dan black belt thinking he wasn’t good enough at times, but overcame those worries whilst climbing the ranks.
Aaron is a firm believer that the hardest thing to do is walking through the door for the first time.
Aaron has extended his knowledge in martial arts having trained in Brazilian Jiu jitsu on and off for nearly two years.
As everyone experienced, he had the disappointment of not being able to train through COVID for over a year. But then felt like he had far more belief upon returning. The last year leading to his achievement of 1st Dan (Nov 2024) saw him train more consistently and regularly then he had in any previous years to make sure he achieved his goals.
Aaron works as a vehicle technician, and spent 14 years with Audi where he trained to the highest level of ‘Master Technician’. He now works for a Porsche specialist in Ringmer.
Aaron has always loved competing in kata and kumite. In 2017 he fought to win a bronze medal at the FSKA World Champions in the novice kumite and this gave him a taste of competition. Next time out he won a Gold in the Men’s kumite at the 2019 FSKA World Championships in Crawley.
More recently Aaron won the individual gold medal at the WUMF World Championships in Men’s Brown belt kata and followed that up by winning a Team Kata gold medal with Sensei’s Lee and Dom.
Aaron has twice won the Seaford karate club member of the year award in 2017 and 2024 showing how dedicated and committed he is to our club and his training.
Aaron says his biggest achievement is passing 1st Dan black belt, which is a culmination of all the work and achievements over the last 8 years.
He is always helpful, approachable and friendly in class. He encourages other students to get the best out of themselves, and he is now a regular member on the grading panel. We are very fortunate to have someone so dedicated within our ranks.
