Every year the black belts nominate three students to receive the award for ‘Member of the Year’. This award is presented to the student who has been outstanding in their contribution to Karate. Not only competing in tournaments and winning trophies or passing gradings successfully but most importantly by attending regularly, listening in class, helping others and seeing improvements made by training hard.
One student is selected to receive the award from the Adult Class, one from the Junior Class and one from the Novice Childrens’ Class. These fine bronze statues are regarded as a prestigious award and if you find yourself as a recipient of one you can be justifiably proud of yourself.
The Senior member of the year award is presented in memory of Markham Thomas 1st Dan who trained in the club with three of his four children. The Junior class award is presented in memory of Harry Rock who trained with us and achieved 4th kyu. A lovely young boy who is truly missed.
