Dominic ‘The Terminator’ Tansley 1st Dan

Dom started training at Seaford Karate Club in 2012 after watching the Seaford Invitational Karate Championships. He quickly passed all his grades and was promoted to 1st Dan black belt in 2018 in Birmingham under the watchful eye of the ASKA grading panel.

He has always enjoyed marital arts having previously trained in Judo and kickboxing, but his other passion is running. You can often find him running barefoot along the esplanade on Seaford seafront.

He has always found karate to be an enjoyable challenge. He confesses to not being the most technical karateka but always tries to focus on functionality and the correct spirit of martial arts.

He has competed in competition many times, mainly in kumite, not so much in kata, but he’s hoping to get into that more in the future.
Dom really enjoyed going though the grading system in karate. He found it a good way to up his game and get out of his comfort zone a couple of times a year.

Dom says “I’ve loved my karate journey, it’s been a very positive influence on my life”.

His work as a truck driver and builder take him all over the place, and he’s always disappointed if he misses a training session.

Dom started training with his daughter Ella, with whom he won a Silver medal at the FSKA World Championships 2019, performing Heian Sandan in the Parent and Child kata event. In the same competition Dom fought in the veteran men’s kumite and after four fights finished with a bronze medal, beating fighters from India and USA.

Dom’s continued his training and also now helps teach his son Harry in the adult class.

Dom is always helpful and happy to teach or train with equal enthusiasm. His kickboxing background makes him an awkward fighter and he’s had to adjust his fighting to become a good  semi contact point scorer. Everyone enjoys having Dom in the class, not everyone enjoys fighting him!
