‘Lethal’ Lee Finch 2nd Dan

Lee originally started his karate training in 1980 at the age of 5 at Uckfield Leisure Centre under Sensei Ron Silverthorne where he was the ‘golden boy’ of the club. He competed in various competition winning many trophies. When he was 9 his Dad took him to a boxing club alongside his karate for two years. When he was 11 he made the choice to stop karate and continue with his boxing and for the next twelve years he had 44 amateur fights.

At the age of 27 Lee had his first son, Lewis, and he wanted him to have the same experience he had growing up so when Lewis was 5 he started at Seaford Karate Club. Lewis was doing very well in tournaments and made Lee very proud, so he had the idea to start again from scratch so they could train together. Lewis did very well with his gradings and competition but to Lee’s heartache when Lewis was a 1st Kyu he decided to end his training. Lee carried on and eventually passed his first Dan in 2011 and then his 2nd Dan in 2013.

In 2010 Sensei Lee won the Seaford Karate Club Member of the Year award that recognizes hard work and dedication in the club, a huge honour bestowed on only a select few.

He has had a very successful competition career, winning individual and team trophies at various tournaments including Seaford club champion, JKR Competition in Woodingdean, SKO Championships in London, BASK Championships in London, ASKA National Karate Championships in Birmingham, USKK European Championships in London and FSKA World Karate Championship in Crawley. He has also trained on courses with Wayne Otto to help improve his kumite.

Lee is a very popular member of the club. He has worked very hard at his karate skills and shown tremendous spirit, strength and a great attitude. He deserves all the credit he gets. The club is very proud of him, as he should be of himself.
