Steve ‘The Jedi’ Jakes 2nd Dan

Steve began his training back in 1984 under Sensei Paul Burton at his Dojo in Eastbourne. When the club closed he moved to Seaford training under Sensei Steve Earl and then with Sensei Martin Dean since 1999.

He passed his 1st Dan black belt later that year in 1999 and his 2nd Dan in 2009 under the ASKA Senior Panel in Birmingham.

Steve is a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor and has worked all over the South of England occasionally taking him away from home for long periods.

He has competed in many karate tournaments around the country, taking medals at open tournaments, and represented Seaford at the FSKA World Championships in 2007 where he won a bronze medal in the adult Individual Kata.

His biggest achievements include winning the Seaford Club kumite championships and being awarded the ‘Senior Member of the Year’ in 2007.
Since retiring from competition Steve continues to represent the club as a Referee at different events. He has also trained under Sensei Kiyoshi Yamazaki – chief instructor of Japan Karate Do Ryobu-Kai from America.

Steve has always enjoyed the club’s ethos of training really hard – which he now passes on in his teaching to the younger karateka ensuring that the basic of karate are improved.

He is a regular member on the grading panel and his knowledge is highly valued in the club.
